Don’t open empty emails in Gmail. This is dangerous spam!

Gmail is famous for its security, but in recent days, algorithms that identify potentially malicious emails have fallen apart. Users around the world began to receive empty letters on their mailboxes, which were clearly sent by crooks.

Using Android? Google has to pay you to do this

A typical message of this kind looks like this: there is no subject, there are several recipients at once, the text contains a random set of characters, and an html file with a clickbait name is attached to the letter. Attachments do not carry viruses that are very dangerous for the computer, but with their help scammers find out who is potentially ready to click where they should not, and replenish their database.

Interestingly, this type of scam is common in Gmail. Other, less popular competitors have not yet fallen victim to spam. And the owners of boxes from Google, who have already got used to the high-quality work of filters, lose their vigilance and press on investments without further thought.

In order not to become a victim of scammers, it is worth following a few simple rules that will save you from trouble:

  • An empty letter from an unknown address containing an attachment – most likely spam, do not open it.
  • If the scammers decide to send mail on behalf of well-known companies, check the sender’s mailing address – it must be present on the company’s website. The link address or file format in the letter should also be checked without clicking on them.
  • Never provide personal data if the bank contacts you in a letter – first contact the support service and clarify whether such a request was made officially.
  • If a phishing email gets into your inbox, but a useful one, on the contrary, goes into spam, do not be too lazy to press a couple of extra keys and let the mail service know about the ineffectiveness of the filters.
  • If you realize that you have become a victim of fraudsters after the transfer of data, urgently change the passwords in the services used. Don’t be lazy to enable two-factor authentication with your mobile phone wherever you can.
