Windows, Linux or macOS? Named the most secure operating system

Experts at Google Project Zero asked the question – which operating system is best protected from hacking and can be considered the most secure? The conclusions turned out to be quite interesting – Linux effortlessly outperformed the familiar Windows and macOS.

The reason for this state of affairs lies not in the initial advantages of the Linux kernel, but in the speed of solving problems that arise, which is provided by the OS developers. The open source code of Linux allows programmers to cope with shortcomings on average within 25 days , and this period is constantly decreasing, in Microsoft and Apple they cannot boast of such a speed.

MacOS may not be replete with bugs and vulnerabilities, but it takes an average of 69 days to fix each problematic case . Google  and Mozilla are developing less popular solutions (Chrome OS and Firefox OS), but are more responsive to “holes” in the system’s security – they need 44 and 46 days, respectively. Windows is an extremely clumsy colossus, nothing happens quickly here, it takes three months to fix vulnerabilities . But in mobile operating systems, it is Apple that rules the ball – in iOS, problems are solved faster than on Android.

Project Zero from Google is looking for security holes in various OSes, after which it reports the vulnerabilities found and gives 90 days to fix them. Project specialists note that since new problems appear in the OS with each update, the speed of their solution is an important indicator that directly affects the security of platform users.
